The Strange Phone Call – #6

“I won’t let you do that… Your enemity is with me not my sister! Leave her… ”

But before he could complete that , the phone ended.

I cannot let that happen. She is all I have… ! I cannot even bow down to his demands else many Innocents would be in danger. He thought

He pounded in to blank wall with anger.

“Uhhh.. that girl! Only she can give me some link! And I can’t even let her be in danger. She is so… ” His eyes softened. “…So beautiful and so.. stupid. Why am I thinking of her .. I need to go and talk to her. I already failed once.. I can’t do any mistakes now. She already messed with my head too much. ”

“Mahek? Is everything ok?! ” Her mom was calling her from behind the door.she might have also heard the thudding voice she suppose.

She was just going to open the door for her, when a strange figure stopped her hands from doing so. He bound her hands in one strong fist and covered her mouth with the other.

“Don’t scream. I will not do any harm” he whispered in her ear. Mahek struggled for realease as her scream was slienced due to the strong hands.

“Please don’t scream. I am sorry for this behaviour but please .. listen to me once.. .”

It was him.. Siddharth. What is he doing now. She was scared.

“Mahek! ” Is everything okay? Open the door.” Her mother was panicking now. So she agreed not to scream. He let her go.

” Ye..yesss! Mom! I’m good. It was .. umm.. it was a cat! I’m good! ” She tried to say being normal and instantly got embarrassed due to the lame reason.

“Okay.. take care sweetheart” and she went.

“A cat…. Hahahahaha! Seriously? “He was laughing.  She was confused at his reaction.

“What? ” she tried making sense

“Nothing.. A .. cat? Do I look like a … Cat?! ”  He laughed hysterically.

“Well.. I couldn’t think of any other reason .. but hey.. what are you doing here sitting on my bed and laughing like you own it.”

” Don’t be mortified”
“Why am I supposed to feel mortified. I am not.”

“Then what’s that blush on your cheeks?.”

“What ?!” She got uncomfortable and angry.

He stood up from the bed heading towards her. “This blush…” Slightly brushing his fingers on her cheek causing them to redden more.

“Is it… What I think?” He stared in her eyes.

Mahek was conscious of her existence now. Sweatpants , messed hair and a lame loose tshirt.

“What?!” She was getting more and more red.

She snapped him away.

“What are you here for?! ”

His look got serious. “For my sister..” he sighed.

“I am sorry for my behaviour last time . But my sister is in serious trouble.. she..”

His phone rang suddenly. He took it.. “No.. stop it.. ok I am coming…”

“What happened?!”

“They are going to kill her if I don’t go. I need your help else many Innocents would be in danger..! Trust me! “He said.

“My help ?!”

“Yes! You are the only link.”

Is any new mystery waiting for her..

The Strange Phone Call – #5

I locked myself in my house for about a week and I had still no plans of getting out. I told mom that I m busy in project so that she won’t investigate any further.

Cell phone rang. It’s Twisha.

“Is your solitude over yet? See you at the college today?! ”

She asked this to me every morning since a week.

“Umm yeah, I’m  coming today…! ”

“Finally” she sighed.

At the college everything was normal. No bad guys, no phone calls and nothing to fear. Twisha was there waiting for me.

“Hope you’ve now gotten out of the solitude you’ve been in since a week. It’s over Mahek! Don’t think too much now.”

“Yeah, I am completely fine now. Don’t worry. ” I lied.

“So all well ?” She doubted.

“I’m hungry , can we get to canteen? ” I dragged her to canteen, to save myself from further interogation .

Not much people were there. There was silence over all, except some groups here and there. A lazy afternoon it seemed to be.

” Ummm.. so you’ve got any calls recently?” She tried to ask. I nodded ” Nope” and  was back to sipping my tea. Nothing could be much better than a tea to refresh you. With a sip of tea, I was lost in my own world again. Thinking of him, his eyes, his arms. Why was I thinking of him. What’s so important about him.

Just then someone arrived in the canteen. Twisha looked shocked seeing the person. She almost spilled her tea. I looked over my shoulder.

“What?! Darn how is he here!?” Twisha yelled.

He was coming straight towards us. He stood before , looking straight into my eyes. I was frightened. I grabbed Twisha.

” Go away! Why are you stalking us. It’s over ! we just came to help, But it seems you don’t want it. So let us be in peace. And yeah you also mind your own business. It was just cz of your.. ”

He held me by my hand. ” I need you to come with me! ” He wasn’t looking away.

“Is that a threat again?! There are people here. You can not get away with your threatening here.”

He stood there . His expressions were different. The rage, the fury, the anger was all hidden behind those eyes which seemed still and silent like an ocean but had capacity to destroy like a whirlpool.

He hesitated for a moment. He fumbled for words I guess. His eyes were saying he was sorry for the behaviour he did before but he was hiding it.

” I just want to talk.”
“We came to talk that day. What were you doing then?” I told him asking for unknown answers. Why was I even conversing with him after what he said and did.

“I am stupid right? Believing in your eyes. Now I am smarter you see! Believing what you are showing.Get lost! I am not going anywhere with you!”

I was hurt and making it obvious to him, he looked puzzled. I freed my hand from his grip and started walking away.

I was wrong to come to college today, I murmured. Just as I was stepping out, he came after me there.

“Mahek!” He shouted .

I stood still for a moment. The sound of my name sounded different from his mouth. Something happened to me. Scared! I moved away from from him. But he grabbed and pushed me to a wall by the side. He was angry.

“Look! I don’t care what you think of me. I surely don’t give a damn. I just came to warn you. Be careful. You are not safe.”

He was so near. His eyes , an intensity I had never seen. My heart just seemed to have stopped. I could barely keep myself from getting lost in him again. The surrounding seemed to vaguely disappear. I bite my lip , to control the anxiety I was having. The tension in his body changed. He was staring at my lips.

“Oh common , I am not safe?  Tell me about that! Don’t even try. Good bye!”

Pushing him hard, I went away from there.  I locked up myself inside my room again.

What’s happening? Who is he? Why am I so thinking about him?  Why did he say I wasn’t safe? I was sitting on my bed with a blanket over me. Moonlight was peeping in through the windows. I held my blanket tight to my chest. What am I feeling ? Please turn it off! I don’t want to turn this feeling on again.

Just then something thudded behind the windows. I was alarmed.

What is that?! .. be continued

The Strange Phone Call – #4

I and Twisha stood there, completely shocked! Did we do the wrong thing helping that girl? Did we just engaged ourselves in some more big unknown strange problem?

He was not moving now. His look was furious still. He locked the door.

“Why are you doing this to us?” Twisha yelled in anger.

“We just came here to help you and your sister.”
He stood silent. Ignoring us.

“How can he be evil?” I thought. “His eyes are so pure. How can they be so decieving.?” I sighed. I was in denial.

“I know you are not bad. I can look it in  your eyes.” I said. He looked at me confused and laughed.

“Oh really?! ” He came awkwardly close to me. Held me by my hairs. “You get all that just from my eyes?! Poor thing.” He was looking straight in my eyes with those blue eyes. “Yes!” I said. And there was a devil laugh. ” You know you are stupid right?! ” He tightened the grip on hairs. “Let me show you something then!” He threatened. ” Stop hurting me! ” I yelled with anger at him. “You have no rights and reasons to do that”

“I don’t need them!” He threatened and put a knife on my throat.

“Stop , leave her! ” Twisha screamed and tried to release me from his clutches. But he was too strong. He pushed Twisha away with one big bang and she was on the floor.

“Leave me!” I screamed. I fondled behind me for support. I got a vase instead in my hand. Without any delay, I hit him with the Vase on head forceful enough to make him shout in pain.

His grip over me loosened and I pushed him hard. He stumbled on the floor with pain.

“Twisha run!” I yelled at her. She was quick. I fumbled to open the lock. I opened it and I and Twisha quickly ran out of the flat. Not looking back once. In seconds we were in the car and on the roads.

We were frightened. From what just happened. We were In a state where we didn’t know what just happened. There was a silence . It was all just like a bad dream.

Twisha stopped the car. We caught our breath. Looked back to check. If we were followed. We were frightened to the core.

“What just happened!? What was all that?! I… I don’t know…What now!? ” I broke down in tears. It was the first time probably I was this frightened in the history of my 25 years of existence. Those eyes with anger and that devil laugh were stuck in my head and ears. I closed my ears tightly in vague attempt to stop it.

“Everything will be OK now.. we are safe! Don’t worry!” Twisha tried to console me inspite of shaking herself. I could feel the fear in her voice .

We went back to our home. I was just sitting in the porch near my room. Looking at the moon and Gazing at the stars. Repeating everything that happened that day. I was angry at him. I was hurt. I was heart broken. But why?! I just met him, and he had no Shame in proving himself a monster! Then why was I feeling hurt. His eyes. Those blue eyes. Why were they so innocent then. What was hidden behind it?! Or was I really stupid like he said. He was so close. I could feel his breath. But was it wrong to feel. There was a beep on my cell phone. It was Twisha.

You okay?

I texted back.

Yeah , maybe I won’t be able to sleep today.

Don’t worry it will be all forgotten. Don’t say anything to anyone. I can’t let my parents know about it.

Her parents have been very possessive about her. As she is their only child. If they knew about this , they will not let her out of the house
Yeah. I know. I won’t.

I hate him. I had all the anger in me. I was hurt. What’s happening to me. Why can’t I just forget it… Rather him. Tears rolled out. I was feeling a strange kind of loneliness and fear. Like something just left me.

” Anyways enough of that!” I thought and stood up to go in.

As soon as I stood up, I heard some noice on the road Infront of my home. I could see the road clearly from the porch of my home. There was nothing except those street lights and a tree behind which I couldn’t see anything. I heard something I know. But I couldn’t see anything. Suddenly I saw something moving behind the tree. I tried to look . There was some person standing out there . He tried to look behind from the tree. I couldn’t see him. He was covered completely in black . His face was covered. There was not enough light . I just could see his figure. He was walking back away. I was frightened as hell. I hurriedly went in.

Was he him, Siddharth ? What was he again doing there.? Was he stalking me now? Am I in danger?

The strange phone call – #3

“Let’s go and have some coffee..” said Twisha.
“What? Coffee this time? No ways! “” We are in the midst of this havoc and you want coffee?! ” I almost yelled at her.

“Stop yelling Mahek! I can’t think right now. I need a coffee to start up my brain.” And she rushed the car , forcing me to hold the dashboard for keeping me from loosing balance.

“I need a strong tea. I don’t drink coffee… Slow down Twisha!” ” We are going .. OK.. I am sorry !” But she stopped only when she reached the cafe.

“One Black coffee?! ” She was ordering black coffee. Twisha does that only when she is really confused and in problem. I ordered my regular strong and sweetened tea. I was observing Twisha. She was constantly thinking , some deep thought process was going on.

“We need to find him. We need to find her brother” She finally uttered what she was thinking.

“What? How?” I was in denial as usual. “No ways..”

“How else we are going to Help her!?”

“But…” Still not sure. I went silent. Sipping on to my hot tea, I thought. She was right,  how else are we going to help? What else are we going to do? Just inform her brother and all of this will get over. No more phone calls and surprises. Life back to normal.

“OK !” I said. Let us get it over with that now. I thought.

Sipping the last drop of tea and paying, we sat in her car. Recalled the address , the girl spoke about and headed.

There it was.We were standing Infront of a large old, wooden door! I was feeling butterflies in the stomach due to anticipation. We were not knowing who or rather what would be there behind the doors. I was staring at the name plate.

Might be her brother’s name , I thought.

Twisha rang the door bell. We waited out there in severe nervousness. No one answered for the first time. She rang the bell again. Still no answer. I got frustrated and angry. ” No one there. Wow! Great! So this ain’t going to end now. It was all so simple. Inform her brother and we are out of trouble. But no… ”

I was looking at Twisha and stood shifting my weight on the closed door for support to stand.

Suddenly someone opened the door. And as I was standing leaning on it, I fell with a thud. “Ohhhh heyyy !” I yelled.

“I am sorry! ” I heard a soft voice.

I was there flat on the floor. Infront of me was standing the guy, who opened the door. He was almost 6 feet tall , well built, fair and must say not less handsome than a greek god. He had that kind of face, which would make you stop for a while inspite of place and situation. He might be used to of that I thought. People staring at him like that. Pausing for a while looking at him and he,  then overcompensating with nonchalant gaze and weak smile followed by little blush of course a dead give away. God! How many girls would have fallen already.

“Hey! You okay?!”he asked concerned. I was back to the senses. Mortified. Red with shame. I literally fell. He was in his boxers and sweating, probably he was working out. He had a chiseled body. What was happening to me!? ” Come back to sense! ” I murmured.

Twisha helped me up. Now I was facing him. He looked with puzzled eyes . I was wondering, how can anyone look so good even after a work out.

“How may I help you!? Girls?! ” He asked. Staring at me. My breath stopped. Why was I getting conscious?! Was he checking me out?  Oh the blue eyes..! I felt relieved when his gaze shifted.  Suddenly, I wanted to finish the meeting and conversation as soon as possible.

“Umm… it’s sort of weird but ..We are here because your sister sent us. She gave me a call. I don’t know her , but she said she was in trouble and I need to inform you about that. ”

His gaze was now worried instead of puzzled. He checked on behind our shoulders.

“Come in, hurry up!” He invited us in.

Puzzled, we both went in.

His home was huge and exquisite inside. The main hall had white sleek walls and large windows. The window to the straight wes framed with dark brown velvet drapes and the lace curtain were drawn aside, letting the sun light in and exposing a view of the outer world. There was a large sofa framing the hall. Large dark coffee brown sofa. To the right, there was a bookshelf. It was unusual of a guy to have such a huge book shelf. I thought. Which guy reads? I’ve never met one I thought, till now. There were two passage on the left. One led to the kitchen I guess and the other door was closed, maybe it was his bedroom.

He was hurrying , closing the door behind. Breathing fast. Walking to and fro, Infront of us. Banging his hand occasionally in to the walls in anger. He was in anger. He was furious. We stood there. Scared. Regretting that we ever got here. I tried to move towards the door . But he was quick. He held my hands and stopped me.

“You are not going anywhere! ” He ordered!. “You both stay here till I say!”” No moving!” “If you tried to move out, you don’t know me… It wouldnt be good for you!” He threatened.

What was that..!.? Was he a bad guy?! Did we make a mistake coming here?! What now?!

The Strange Phone call -#2

I stood there panicked. The sky was still full of light from the celebrations of just started new year. Twisha stared at me confused
” What was the call about?!”

I shook head ” Nothing..” “Just a wrong call!”

She eyed me with suspucion. She always knew when I lied. “OK fine!” I told in fear and desperation. ” It it was a strange phone call .. from a lady! She needs help! She might be in danger! I have no idea where what when! But something was wrong. ” I stopped to breathe.

Twisha tried to calm me. But she looked as panicked. ” Why would she call you?! ”

” I have no idea!” I said.

Both confused and panicked, we decided to return home and see what we could do next morning!

I couldn’t sleep the night thinking what might be the lady talking about. Constantly kept looking at the phone in case it rings again. The number was by heart till now. Early in the morning, I was down for breakfast. Still looking at the phone. ” Are you expecting a call dear?! ” Mom asked. I was suddenly aware that she was observing me from quite long. I decided not to tell anything about the strange phonecall to her. ” No mom, it’s Twisha! We are going to meet! Waiting for her…”

And a loud horn blared right Infront of the main door. “Urrgh.. When will she stop doing that.” I murmured. Took the last sip of my hot tea and rushed to the door. I couldnt let her in. She has a big mouth. She will speak everything about the phone call to mum.

There she was, in her car, right Infront of the gate. Twisha was the only child of a rich businessman. Born and brought up in leisures. But despites of the arrogance that she clearly got from her father, she had a really soft and caring side which I suppose was due to her mom. We were friends since kindergarten. I have seen her crying when her father couldn’t make it to an annual program to see her performance, also seen her confident enough and arrogant to shatter your ego in pieces. I although have never experienced the arrogant side. We had some sort of understanding, hard to explain.

I sat next to her, and she started.

“So got any call? Again?! ” She asked curiously.

” Hey, where are we heading?!” I asked sensing that we were moving.

“To the police station! To report the phone call”she said “what else we are gonna do?!

I was not liking the idea. She sensed that already ” What are we going to report?! We don’t have any information other than the phone number. No whereabouts, no names .. nothing!” “We even don’t know if it’s not fake. I think it would be stupid of us.”

“But…” She tried to protest.

Suddenly my phone rang. It was that number again. My heart skipped a beat. I was frozen. I looked to Twisha wide eyed. She understood. Confused. “Pick up the phone” she said nervously. I picked it up.

Same sounds again. More clearer this time. Some kind of work place. Some sort of factory. Something was being manufactured. Wasn’t that clear. Line was having disturbance.

Hello, please help me! I m stuck! Contact my brother. He might be looking for me.  Flat no. 9 , Sanidhya complex. Do not involve police.  “

“Hello!” Who are you?!” How do you know me?!” Where are you?!

But the line was dead. What just happened?! I tried calling the number again this time. But it was switched off.

I looked at Twisha. She too was just as panicked and shocked. We stopped the car at side. I was panicking.

“What is happening?! Who is she?! Why calling me?! ”

“Don’t panick”. Twisha tried to console me.

I was frightened and so was she. ” The girl is in need . It’s not a fake call! What are we gonna do Twisha?! ”

The Strange Phone call – #1

“Mehak….!” Shouted her mother knocking the door “What are you doing in there Mahek?! Weren’t you supposed to go out with those girls today?!

It was a cold winter night. There I sat on my bed. Cozing up with my blanket, A diary in my lap and  nibbling the pen between my teeth. There was an awkward silence in the room despite of noises outside. Yeah it was 31st December , end of the year. People were partying , Loudspeakers blaring and crackers crackling.

“It’s still not the time mom! ” I yelled. “Let me know when you leave darling!” And then mother went downstairs talking to herself about all the chores that has been left to do.

“Finally I am alone” , I thought. “I want to sit alone for just some moment. Can’t I even get that?! All these people are celebrating. I feel no point in that. One year is to end. And I’ve done nothing. Seriously. ” I started scribbling on my diary.Writing a diary had been part of my routine. I liked to pen down my thoughts. And at that moment, I couldn’t think anything else but about the urge of writing down my thoughts one last time in that year.

Dear diary,

It’s 31st of December already. Year is to end any moment. I feel like I am leaving something here in 2016. I don’t want it to end. I wanna pause the time and just sit here. 2016 has been a year of ups and downs. Many goodbyes and many new hellos. But why m I feeling this sort of thing?!. I fear what’s to come in the new year.  There is nothing that has been kept secret from you my diary. You know me in and out. Tell me what’s wrong with me?

I know I’ve made many mistakes. I remember fighting with my mom, yelling at my friends. Ignoring those who cares about me. Filthy relationships. I’ve been a bitch sometimes. I don’t know the reason for my behaviour but I do recognize the difference in my thoughts.

The cellphone beeps.I look at the clock and then my phone. It’s late . It beeped again. Itook it . A number was flashing on her screen. “Who would be calling at this time?” I wondered. I ignored it thinking of it as a wrong number and continued with writing.
I’ve been through the worst now. I will improve. Try and be a mature person. Taking all the decisions with responsiblity. I will try to ..

And my thoughts were once again broken . The cellphone beeped again. The same number again. I was thoughtful this time. Should I be picking it up? After a fraction of turmoil I picked up , “Hello?!” I asked “who is there?!” No one answered. I asked again , ” anyone there?!” .Silence. No reply. I heard some noises on the line and confirmed it might be a wrong number. Continued my writing again. This time only to end it soon.

So dear diary, amidst of all the noises inside me. I promise to be hopeful and optimistic next year. Work hard play hard and enjoy the life to fullest. Love you. Goodnight .

The cellphone beeped again. As soon as she ended. But a name flashed this time. It was Twisha this time. Her self coronated best friend.

” How much time are you gonna take Mahek! It’s already 11 45 . Come down I am waiting right Infront of your home! ” She yelled. “Two minutes” I said hasting towards my wardrobe . Chose a nice bold dress and put it on. Ran fingers through my hairs. N applied a lip gloss. Taking one last look at the mirror, she rushed down holding pair of heels in hand. ” I’m leaving mumma!” She shouted and rushed through the door without waiting for a reply.

There she was. Waiting ! And I knew I was in trouble as I was the one who kept her waiting. ” Hurry up! Lazy feet! I have to show you something. Fasten your steps Mahek!” Twisha grabbed my hands. She is always this excited for everything. Twisha was the one driving today. “God save us”  I whispered. Her driving was the worst nightmare you can get.

Finally after dodging numerous vehicles we reached where she wanted me to take. It was only about 5 mins distance from my home. Still I had not been there before. That place was beautiful. No houses. Just a tree and vast land till horizon. She took me near the tree. “The countdown begins ” she said pointing towards the sky.  “10 .. 9.. 8.. 5.. 4..3..2..1..!” “Look there!”she squeeled.

The sky was full of colours and lights. There was unique enthusiasm in the crackers noise. We could hear the people screaming all around. I looked in awe. The cold breeze and this feeling. I put my arms around myself. Hugging myself tight. This year wouldn’t have been great if Twisha wasn’t by my side I thought . She had somehow managed to keep my dark and twisty side apart and far. I was feeling Hopeful now for the year to come. Confused emotions often come out in the form of tear drops, and so was with me.

I was struck by the moment. And again the phone beeped. Forcing me to break the moment . The wrong number again. She picked up and yelled ” Who is this?! Why are you calling me ?! Hello?!” ” He.llooo… “A strange voice replied this time! It was a lady. ” I need your help! Please!” And a voice thudded behind . ” Hello? Who are you?! What help? What happened?! ” I asked, But the phone was dead.
